Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson, has spoken out in support of Armed Forces Day, which was held on Saturday 27 June.

The MP has urged everyone to take a moment to thank the whole service community, as well as their friends and families, for the contribution they make to our safety and protection.

Bridget said:

“I am a proud supporter of our Armed Forces, who put their lives on the line to create a safer world for us all.

“Armed Forces Day is hugely important. It provides us with an opportunity to stand together and thank our forces and their families and friends for their service and support.

“Our Armed Forces serve in some of the most dangerous areas of the world to defend Britain’s interests and national security with unyielding commitment, professionalism and courage.

“In this year when we mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, it is a time to remember the individual bravery and collective determination of all our veterans.

“I would particularly like to take this opportunity to recognise the sacrifices and achievements made by veterans and service men and women here in Sunderland.”
