Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson, has become a founding member of a new parliamentary group to support the UN Women agency.
Attending the inaugural meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on UN Women, Bridget will be part of a core group of MPs and peers working hard to support the UN’s vital work on global women’s rights.
Speaking after the event, Bridget said:
‘The previous Labour government strongly supported the creation of UN Women and we are delighted to witness its successful first year.
‘In the face of deep Tory spending cuts, which disproportionately affect women, Labour MPs are supporting women’s rights at both local, national and international levels.
‘Through the All Party Parliamentary Group we can help UN Women achieve social justice and development for women and girls worldwide.’
