Bridget_Phillipson_Dr_Helen_Pepper.jpgLast week Bridget Phillipson, Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South, liaised with climate campaigners attending the ‘Speak Up for Climate’ lobby at Parliament.

9,000 people from across the UK took part in the biggest ever lobby on climate change at Westminster and met with MPs to discuss the threat of climate change.

Campaigners raised a range of important issues including the provision of warm homes for all, the protection of natural habitats and support for those most affected by climate change across the globe. Lobbyists also stressed the importance of world leaders reaching an ambitious global agreement on climate change this year.

Speaking after the event, Bridget said:

“It was striking to see so many thousands of people taking part in this important lobby.

“I enjoyed meeting Dr Helen Pepper, a passionate constituent of mine, to discuss the issues campaigners want MPs to prioritise in Parliament and the challenges posed by climate change.

“I will do all I can in Parliament to press the government to ensure provision of warm homes and clean energy in this country.

“In this important year for climate change, I hope that we’ll see real progress towards a global climate change deal.”
