On 26 October Bridget Phillipson MP met with firefighters in Parliament to recognise and celebrate the vital work they do in keeping the public safe.
The ‘Love Your Firefighters’ event saw fire brigade staff from across the country meet with MPs to highlight the action that is needed to maintain a world class fire and rescue service.
Commenting on the event, Bridget Phillipson MP said:
“It was a privilege to meet with professional firefighters, including local resident and Fire Brigades Union official Andy Noble, who do this invaluable work.
The fire at Grenfell Tower served as a reminder of the extraordinarily difficult job done by firefighters, who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. They should be properly supported and valued for this service.
Unfortunately, cuts to fire services are undermining their ability to protect both themselves and the public.
If we want to maintain a high-quality, professional fire service, the government must match its warm words about the work our firefighters do with concrete action.”
