Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson has welcomed the opening of a new learning centre at Sunderland Civic Centre which will help support some of Sunderland Council’s 16,000 staff in their duties – so they can improve the lives of people living in the local area.
The Learning Centre is part of the Learning Styles scheme, a joint initiative between the Trade Unions and Sunderland City Council, which has run successfully for over 3 years and has helped train people in key skills such as IT and business management.
Commenting on the opening, Bridget said:
“I was delighted to be asked to open the new Learning Centre here at Sunderland City Council.”
“This impressive partnership between unions and the City Council has been very successful in achieving and promoting learning opportunities which will benefit individuals, organisations and the wider community by encouraging adults of all levels of ability to consider returning to learning.”
“In today’s current climate opportunities such as these are really important. I am therefore happy to give my wholehearted endorsement to their learning agenda.”
