Using the social media channel YouTube, Bridget Phillipson MP has backed Armed Forces Day, urging everyone to take a moment to thank the whole service community for the contribution they make.

Labour has tabled a cross-party motion in the House of Commons which ‘recognises the outstanding contribution to our country made by serving personnel, reservists and veterans… further recognises the importance of Armed Forces Day as a moment to remember and give thanks, as well as celebrate achievements and demonstrate united backing, for our armed forces.’

Labour campaign group ‘Labour Friends of the Forces‘ is hosting a series of videos and blogs from Labour figures on the importance of Armed Forces day, encouraging people to get involved locally.

Labour is also campaigning for cross-party talks on ending discrimination against the Armed Forces. Recent evidence shows that this is still an issue and we want all to come together to find a way to protect those who protect our country.

On YouTube Bridget Phillipson MP said:

“With less than a week to go until Armed Forces Day I want to express my gratitude to our servicemen and women and all they do in keeping our country safe.

“I know from my own family how incredibly proud we are of my grandfather and everything that he did during the Second World War to fight tyranny and oppression.

“But I’m just as proud today of our servicemen and women, particularly those from Sunderland, who serve with such commitment, with such bravery, and show such professionalism where they serve across the world.”
