On 14 March at PMQsI called on the Prime Minister to welcome Facebook’s decision to take down pages related to the extremist group Britain First.

I also asked her whether she agreed with me that the government has a clear role to play in providing clear guidance on how social media companies should operate in our democracy.

Facebook’s action is welcome and timely. Britain First is a far-right extremist organisation that uses hate speech to stir up hatred and division within our society.

I am pleased that the Prime Minister joined me in welcoming Facebook’s announcement, but we need to carefully consider how we tackle extremism in all its forms.
