Despite absorbing higher funding cuts than any other force in the country, it’s clear that Northumbria Police are doing their best to keep our community safe.

We heard about Operation Decipher, which was recently set up to tackle overnight car crime and has already resulted in several significant arrests.

Local people are encouraged to check that their car doors are locked at night -; particularly those who store tools or other expensive equipment in transit vans.

Inspector Carty also talked about combating motorcycle disorder by deploying plain-clothed officers to local flashpoints at weekends.

With the longer daylight hours and warmer weather that summer will bring, the police are also asking residents to make sure their windows and doors are always locked and that sheds and garages are properly secured.
