Houghton and Sunderland South MP Bridget Phillipson has welcomed the start of production of Infiniti, the premium brand of Nissan Motor Company, at its award winning production centre in Sunderland.

Production started at the plant on Thursday 3rd December and an estimated 60,000 Infiniti cars will be made a year. As a result, 300 additional jobs have been created at the plant and an estimated 1,000 UK wide.

Bridget Phillipson MP said:

“It’s a credit to every worker at Nissan on Wearside that the plant was chosen to produce this new luxury car.

“The production of Infiniti in Sunderland will contribute to the north east’s continuing record as an exporting region with a highly skilled work force.”
