Bridget and Louise EllmanLocal MP, Bridget Phillipson has submitted a report to the influential Transport Select Committee, which local bus users in her constituency have helped write.

Through Bridget’s website local people made their views known on the changes to bus services and the opportunities they have had to make their views known to the bus companies.

Forty people completed the survey within the 10 days it was open for people to participate. Bridget handed over a copy of the Big Bus Survey report to the Chair of the Transport Select Committee, Louise Ellman MP, in a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament.

Commenting after the ceremony, Bridget said:

“I wish to thank my constituents for taking part in ‘The Big Bus Survey’, without their support this submission would not have been possible.

“I hope the end result will honour their efforts and help deliver a bus network, which is accountable and supports the demands and needs of local people.

“I will continue to put pressure on the government and local bus companies to deliver a service which works for local people.”

Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Transport Select Committee, said:

“The Big Bus Survey’ is a fantastic idea -; I think it’s wonderful that the people of Houghton and Sunderland South have had an opportunity to make their views known on local bus services.

“I take the concerns of bus users very seriously and the committee’s report will be published in due course.”
