Today marks the opening of the ‘Voice and Vote: Women’s Place in Parliament’ exhibition in Westminster Hall. The exhibition highlights the campaign for votes for women and women’s representation.
I was proud to find my name amongst those of all female MPs elected to the House of Commons- of which there has been 490 in total since 1918. Parliament has moved a long way towards equality, with 32% of MPs in the current UK Parliament being women- but this is still not truly representative of the UK population, and more remains to be done. There are only a few more men elected at this current moment, than there have been women elected in history.
