Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
During yesterday’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) inquiry, I asked HM Chief Inspector of Schools why the impact of financial pressures on school standards and outcomes for children was not being properly measured by Ofsted.
Schools in the North East have faced a real-term funding cut since 2010 and around 10% are now classed by Ofsted as ‘stuck’, struggling to improve performance. We need to better understand the challenges facing our schools and what actions should be taken to make improvements.
Our children only get one start in life, and this chance should be fair for all. I will continue to campaign for a better funding settlement for schools in our region and across the country.
