Today marks Fuel Poverty Awareness Day. I know that many local people struggle to suitably heat their homes, with around 4 million households in the UK affected. Low incomes, high energy prices and poor insulation all contribute towards people struggling to stay warm. Last year there were over 50,000 excess winter deaths in the UK, of which 30% are estimated to be because of cold homes. This is a further indication of the scale of the difficulties faced by many in our society.

Visit the National Energy Action website (www.nea.org.uk) to view practical advice on keeping homes warm and what help is available.
