This morning I visited Kepier Pharmacy, where I met with staff to discuss the free NHS flu jab and receive my vaccine from community pharmacist William Burlace.

As we approach flu season, it is important that people who are at greater risk of flu, such as those aged above 65, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions such as asthma and COPD, receive their flu vaccine.

Sadly, not enough people are aware they are eligible for a free NHS flu jab, or that they can receive it at community pharmacies, which offer accessible walk-in services and access to medicines – often without the need for an appointment. Last winter, fewer than half of those with a health condition in Sunderland were vaccinated.
