This morning I visited Maxim Brewery, one of our great local businesses with a proud heritage on Wearside.

I had a good discussion with Managing Director Mark Anderson about the challenges posed by coronavirus, and also the uncertainty caused by recent government proposals that would affect small brewers.

At a time when businesses like Maxim are already facing difficulties, the Government shouldn’t be putting forward poorly thought out plans that could jeopardise their operations. It’s vital ministers now provide clarity on the impact their proposals are likely to have.
