Following the Prime Minister’s announcement today, Sunderland has been ranked ‘High’ (Tier 2) in the Government’s new three-tier alert system. Whilst this does not mean any further restrictions for Sunderland at this stage – with cases still rising – we must not be complacent and continue to do all we can in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The regulations will come into force on Wednesday after a debate in Parliament. They do involve some minor changes, for example all household mixing indoors remains banned, but the rule of six will apply to outdoor gatherings, including in gardens. Support bubbles remain in place.
