Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South

It was great to meet local farmer Stephen Gregson and representatives from the National Farmers Union yesterday. We had a good discussion about some of the issues affecting the farming community in our area, and the particular challenge around preventing rural crime and fly-tipping.
It was also encouraging to learn about the NFU’s call for agriculture to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and commitment to promoting sustainable farming methods.
I’m proud of our area’s rural heritage, and Labour will keep calling on the Government to stand by our farmers and protect our natural environment.
