Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South

Since the closure of Hetton-le-Hole nursery was proposed last year, I have been in regular contact with Sunderland City Council to ensure local residents are kept updated with any developments and that their views are heard.
Sunderland City Council put forward a number of options on the nursery’s future.
These include a federation option which would have allowed Hetton-le-Hole nursery to remain open, by joining the already established federation between Houghton Community Nursery School and Mill Hill Nursery.
However, this option was rejected by the nursery’s governing body, and the decision has been taken to close the nursery school. I appreciate how disappointing this will be for parents in particular.
You can read more about these options and the decision making process here.
