Bridget Phillipson MP provides update on Burnside Academy

Following a partial underground collapse during planned maintenance at Burnside Academy in March, alternative arrangements to educate pupils off-site have since been in place.

I know this has been a challenging period for parents and pupils, and a number of parents have contacted me to raise their concerns. I’ve been in touch with Headteacher Leona Kelly. School staff have been working hard to minimise disruption, and to support pupils and families.

The various teams that have been brought in to fix the problem are working as quickly as possible to facilitate the safe return of pupils. I will be writing to ministers at the Department of Education to urge them to do everything within their power to speed up the process. I will provide a further update when more information is available, and I know it has been an unsettling time.
