Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South

Today I visited Friends of the Drop In for Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Sunderland.
Around the country, we are recognised as a friendly and welcoming community. Volunteers at Friends of the Drop In demonstrate this caring attitude towards those who are fleeing horrific situations in their home countries.
After recent events, we know there are tough times ahead for those attempting to escape persecution at the hands of brutal regimes. We all have a part to play in helping those in need, and I hope we show the leadership of which this country is capable in the coming months and years.
I’d like to thank Friends of the Drop In – Sunderland for their work to ensure Sunderland is a warm and hospitable place for those who need it most.
