Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
I met with Denise and Hannah from Citizens Advice Sunderland to discuss the Government’s upcoming cut to Universal Credit.
Citizens Advice Sunderland have supported over 4,000 people on Universal Credit during the pandemic, the majority of whom had never been in touch before. They know the devastating impact the Government’s plans will have.
In our community, half of all working-age families with children will be hit by the cut. It is the biggest overnight cut to social security in modern times, due to take over £1,000 a year from millions of families.
That’s why Labour will force the Government to put this cut to a vote in Parliament.
Thank you to everyone at Citizens Advice Sunderland for all their work at this crucial time to support those in need of help and advice in our area.
