Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
Our area needs more well paid, highly-skilled jobs and better insulated homes.
Good insulation is really important in both tackling climate change and also driving down energy costs for families. In our community, almost two thirds of homes were rated Very Poor, Poor or Average by the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for windows energy efficiency, and one in four homes have poor ratings for walls energy efficiency and roof energy efficiency.
This means that the bills are much higher than they should be.
A Labour government would upgrade the 19 million homes across our country that need better insulation.
That would mean more jobs in areas like ours, together with lower bills for families and action to tackle climate change.
