On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the progress towards women’s equality.

I have always been inspired by the work of Dr Marion Phillips, the first female MP for Sunderland, who dedicated her life to eradicating poverty, improving education and empowering women.

We still have a lot more to do to advance the rights of women and girls and ensure that everybody has the opportunity to reach their potential. That’s why Labour will put women at the heart of our recovery, because we know they hold the key to a stronger economy.
