I am very sorry to hear absolutely horrific news that a man has lost his life following a dog attack in Shiney Row.

On behalf of our community, I extend condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Northumbria Police have assured me that the man’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers, and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.

Whilst there is no ongoing risk to the wider community, officers will remain in the area to offer reassurance and carry out enquiries.

As a full investigation is now underway, Northumbria Police request that people refrain from online speculation at this time.
