Bridget Phillipson Labour Member of Parliament for Houghton and Sunderland South
Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson has spoken of her delight that ‘The Big Bus Survey’, a grassroots campaign to improve local bus services, has gained support from the Government.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Bridget said;
“If we are to create jobs and growth, we need to ensure that we have bus services and the capacity to encourage businesses to invest and grow”.
Responding to Bridget, David Heath – a Government Minister – said:
“Unless we recognise the value of public transport in this country we will be missing a trick, and will not achieve some of our objectives. I hope that she will maintain pressure on local authorities in her area to support bus services.”
Bridget said after the debate:
“I am delighted that ‘The Bug Bus Survey’ has gained Government support. Local people deserve a good local bus service that meets their needs”.
