I was honoured to present the A690 Youth Initiative with a £5,000 funding prize – for winning the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA – Tennis For Britain) ‘Community Award’, for community venue of the year.

A690 Youth Initiative is part of the St Mary and St Peter’s Community Project, and focuses on supporting disadvantaged young people at heightened risk of social exclusion. It provides activities – such as tennis – that might otherwise be denied to young people between the ages of 5-19, as well as adults recovering from brain injuries and disabled people. The initiative seeks to improve lives through sport and make tennis available to everyone, and offers opportunities for over 130 young people per week.

The LTA Tennis Awards acknowledge the incredible achievements of volunteers, coaches, schools and clubs, which help to open the sport up to more people. It was brilliant to see the work of the A690 Youth Initiative in action, and congratulate them on the hard work they do to make sport more accessible for the whole community.
