Armed-Forces-Day.jpgHoughton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson, has called on the local community to support our men and women in uniform both past and present on Armed Forces Day 2014.

Armed Forces Day (Saturday 28th June) is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the work and sacrifices made by those who have served and serving in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. In addition, gives local communities the opportunity to show their continued support for those in uniform.

Bridget Phillipson MP said:

“Today communities up and down the country will gather to recognise, remember and respect the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women -; both past and present.

“Armed Forces Day this year is particularly important because it coincides with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

“Our Service personnel continue to work around the world in some of the most dangerous situations to defend Britain’s interests and national security. However, the sacrifice associated with military life is rarely endured alone -; we must not forget the impact on the friends and families of those who serve too. They provide invaluable support to loved ones away from home and the contribution they make to local communities her in the north east and around the world should never be underestimated.”
