Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson, in a public letter to Go North East Managing Director Kevin Carr, has called on the company to re-think its plans to cut services across the Houghton and Sunderland area.

The company has been asked to publish key figures which show how much profit Go North East makes on each route in addition to how many local people depend and use the routes planned to be cut and altered.

Commenting on the proposed service changes, Bridget Phillipson MP said:

“Go North East has proven the need for Councillors on the ITA to support a Quality Contract Scheme when they meet in September.

“The planned cuts to local bus services will disrupt the journeys of hundreds of local people, many of whom have not had a chance to make their concerns known.

“Local residents have told me past consultations by bus companies have felt like a foregone conclusion and their views are not listened to. I hope this time it’s different.”
