Houghton and Sunderland South MP, Bridget Phillipson has presented a £50,000 award from Sports England to the new North-East Premier Cricket League club, Hetton Lyons.

The award presented as part of Sports England’s ‘Inspired Facilities’ fund is part of the £135m ‘Places People Play’ legacy programme that is bringing the magic of the Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country

Their investment in our local cricket club’s future will breathe new life into the tired facilities, vitally improving and upgrading its changing and social facilities, and also installing a new electronic score-board.

Commenting on the announcement, Bridget said:

“This much-needed injection of cash for Hetton Lyons will help improve their changing rooms and social areas and provide more opportunities for both boys and girls to play cricket.”
